PMVA (Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression)
This course is for candidates who are required to complete 3-day PMVA training or those that need to update their 3-day PMVA training certificate.

Day 1
- Legislation, Legal Frameworks, and Ethical Considerations
- Legal Responsibilities and Reasonable Force
- Risks Associated with Restraint
- Mental Capacity + Mental Health
- Challenging Behaviour, Concerning Behaviours
- Root Causes of Distress
- Creating a Supportive Culture
- Health, Therapeutic Relationships, and Person-Centred Care
- Populations and Locations
- Dynamic Risk Assessments
- Stages of the Assault Cycle
- Breakaway – Conflict Resolution
Day 2
Verbal and Non-Verbal De-escalation Techniques on:
- Role + Responsibilities of Head Person, 3 C’s, presenting + securing the head
- Instruction and practise in: – Friendly come along (including non-Contact, stage one, stage two, and figure four) Team approaches
- Upper arm bandage
- Upper arm wrap for maintaining security
- Upper arm spiral to supine hold (prepared for descent to the ground)
Day 3
Instruction and practise in the following:
- Supine Descent
- Descend to the floor
- Upper arm wrap to an elevated resting position and return
- Difficult exercises (sniper position);
- Legs secured in supine;
- Elevated rest to standing
- Seated de-escalation
- Decent to chair
- Difficulty simulations
- Unexpected and/or inadvertent controlled descent to the ground initiated by the aggressor (patient led prone)
- The descent Upper rest to lower rest, then back up
- De-escalation on Prone Floor Legs
- Change from Prone to Supine
- Standing from Kneeling
